The Plan

The Arroyo Group prepared the plan to build a better Downtown Compton, making it into a world-class destination that is yet accessible and representative of all the City’s residents. The visionary and regulatory plan orients growth along a road-dieted Compton Boulevard which is known as the Compton Walk. As a nod to Compton’s inspiring musical history, The Compton Walk will include a base streetscape patterning and design intended to resemble a blank musical ‘score sheet’, upon which the local community will be encouraged to compose and share their own unique ‘songs’ and expressions about Compton. The Arroyo Group then developed portions of a successful $21 million Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant application which will fund the construction of this base streetscape. Extensive outreach was conducted at several community events along with a popular, project-specific Instagram account, online videos and surveys.
